Thought for the day: Sticker shock

I went into London yesterday to meet a friend I haven't seen for a while. We walked, we chatted, we had coffee and then - just after lunch - we decided to take in a showing of Tarantino's "Inglorious Basterds" at a cinema in the centre of London.

I bought two (2) tickets for the showing - £27.

Let me put that into perspective. That's $43.

For two tickets. Not special edition tickets. Or premiere tickets. Or even 3D-film tickets. Just common-or-garden cinema tickets.

At my local theatre the tickets for the same film are a maximum of £7.15 each. This is an a cinema with more legroom, better views and superior sound.

That's my definition of 'sticker shock' - I gasped audibly when the lady quoted the price to me.

Am I out of touch? Is £27/$43 for 2 cinema tickets normal nowadays? Please let me know

(By the way the movie itself was... interesting)
